OUR
FIRST MAU!

Abu was our first Egyptian Mau, a silver neutered male. It was love at first sight at a CFA show near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on a fall afternoon in 1998. We originally planned a day-trip to further investigate Maus, but after talking with Melissa Bateson (New Kingdom Cattery) and Melanie Morgan (EMau Cattery), we soon were the proud owners of a striking seven month old Mau and were then on our way home to introduce him to our family of Mr. George (our chubby Siamese) and Whisper (our Burmese). Near immediate acceptance was given by our two oldest "children", even by Mr. George, who took a year and a half to accept me as Mom (very jealous cat!). Abu was to be a pet and perhaps a show cat. We decided to give the show scene a whirl, and quickly discovered it to be both challenging and extremely enjoyable. After about three months of showing, Abu accumulated enough points to be designated a "Grand Premier". We are very proud of Abu.
Today Abu is enjoying life at home. He is one of the largest Mau's I have ever seen. Sometimes he gets called the "Maine Coon Mau " because of his size. His recent job is to check out our visitors to make sure they are "Mau Approved". So far everyone has passed! Occasionally we take him out to the show scene when we want something to do or when we don't have anything else out showing. I just have to make sure he has his hand warmers. He hates the cold!
